Avoiding Obsolescence in Digital


Hi Class,

Here is an article posted last year by a good friend of mine. While it is a recruiting article – which is not totally a bad thing for some of you – the thoughts it conveys about what to learn and how to learn in digital marketing are worthwhile to anyone wanting to be a corporate decision maker or an entrepreneur (just think partners or associates instead of co-workers).

The key takeaways here are three-fold:

First, don’t wait to learn until the last minute. I think those of you in this program have that down for now, but it is a mindset you can never lose.

Second, you need to understand the technical, but don’t obsess with the technical unless that is your passion. If you want to be a manager/leader, you need to be able to see what the trending is doing to technology and the state of your industry or practice.

Third, while the need to continue learning in marketing is compelling, don’t limit this thinking just to your marketing, or even your professional life. Learning all types of things opens up your mind and brings you opportunity.
